called into the local LFS to pick up some food and spotted a label on the tank selling a pair of breeding blue rams (£30), with it being payday i rushed to find the guy only to be told they had just sold them 5 mins before i arrived...

£13 for electric blues near me, but if they were definitely a breeding pair I'd pay 30, you'd make the money back selling the fry (hopefully). Gutting indeed!

yes ive seem electric ones for 12.95 but he just said blues, so i think they are about £4 each or something

You'd still make the money back with regular ram fry, paying 30 for breeding rams is like buying 5 or 6 and hoping they pair up.
