Started to set up my tank, used a mature filter and added the sand....

the tank after is still a bit cloudy and the filter is making grouching noise every couple of seconds... so im guessing i havent cleaned the sand enough and the filters knackered.

This normally would be an issue but due to recent ebay purchases i now have about 5 filters in reserve

So to all those not wanting to put the hours into washing sand THOROUGHLY learn from my mistake!

It could just be that you have air traped in the filter. Give it a good old shake. Also check you impeller for damage.

what ive done it removed the media and placed it in a bucket of clean water. the odd grinding noise but seems to be quiet now, will leave it in there for another hour.

alot of crap came out of it so probably just needed a good clean, my fault as i know i overloaded it.
