Hi plenty of info in the livebearer section :shifty:

guppies usually carry for around a month, so maybe work out when you first started seeing her pregnant.
Signs of pregnancy are a large belly, a boxy-look from the front view, and a darker gravid spot. The spot, under the fish's tail, is like a stained-glass window where the fry come out. Near the day of delivery you can sometimes see eyes of the unborn fry as tiny black dots.

she will retract from the others and become grumpy and boring and before you knoe it.....

POP...POP...POP...POp pop 1 by one they shoot out lol.

She is going to get gravid spots which will get larger and darker thoughout her pregnancy. She will also grow a very large belly. If she is newly pregnant then it will be 3-4 weeks before birth. Put lots of plants in the tanks so she can hise from the male and so she has a safe place to drop her young. They eat there own babies so the plants will also give the fry a place to hide. If you wish to use a breeder trap then thats fine but it may stress her out if you put her in too soon. A seprate tank with lots of plants would be better. Just reomve the female right after she is done. (takes about three hours)

what do people do with the babies once you have too many for your tank? Let them die off, sell them (is there a market??) or just pass them on to others / onto the LFS?

Confused :)

Make friends with someone who has an oscar...

Some (but a minority) LFS will take them; usually for store credit rather than cash, the point being that, unless you're a proper breeder producing high quality or good colour strains, the young of the average livebearer just don't have any resale value. I suspect most of those taken in by LFS are used as feeder fish anyway.

An awful lot of people just end up with multiple, poorly maintained tanks full of stunted fish.

I found a great LFS that takes mine in and sells them. Good guy. But unusual.

This is why I have a tank full of females and one with males. As soon as is feasible I'll be giving them all away for store credit. Well, maybe I'll keep a few of the stunners!

Some local pet stores take them but you cant always relay on that. You could always ask friends and families but that could be harmful for the fish for many reasons. You could always get another tanks to put the females in. By seperateing the females you wont end up with more pregnant females. also breeding siblings is not the best method and leads to weak guppies. So getting a new tank to put the females in is the best method. In a minimum of a week you can see gravid spots on the females. If you are ever unsure of the sex the assume it is male. One male in youe female tank will be catastrophic! Hope this helps!

She can't have been pregnant for two months; it's just not physically possible. She either wasn't pregnant when you thought she was, or she has had a brood that have all been eaten (most likely).

Nevermind; there'll be more along soon...
