ok on saturday i plan to go to my lfs and buy 3 female guppys and 1 male is this enough or will i need more to keep them happy

Sounds fine, and don't worry- you will soon have more!

Guppies are sociable rather than schooling, so are fine with a smaller group like this, you've got the male/female ratio absolutely right, should be good. :D

I bought more female Guppies to add to the two male I had . Now I have only one male will I need to buy another ?

No, females don't need males  The only reason you are recommended to get at least 2 females per male is that livebearer males are oversexed and can easily exhaust a single female. 1 male with a whole harem of females will be perfectly happy, and his wives will be glad to spread the work between them. And the male won't be sorry to be without rivals.

Fine if you're happy to have about 75 new born fry every 4 weeks and then if the fry reach maturity (which doesn't take very long) will themselves produce around 25 fry per female every 4 weeks. :hyper:

Do you know what you'll do with the fry or are they going to be fish food for the others ? it pays to plan ahead if you want to avoid multiple tank syndrome (in which case just case 4 males).

I guess they will probably be food for themselves and the tetra and platies. So far no signs of any fry so no hopes so far.
What is multitank syndrome?

mts is where you buy more tanks to house your new fishies

Yes. Been there...

When I first had guppies, I had two males and they were hounding a female platty all the time, so to stop that I bought one female guppy. Within a few weeks I was excited to see I had loads of fry and horrified to see the mother and the tank mates eating them. The fry were quickly found and put in a breeding trap floating in the top of the tank. This lead to tank number two to provide somewhere for the fry to grow until they were larger than bite size.

A few weeks later it was possible to sex them and had to seperate them to prevent zillions more guppy fry being born. This lead to tank number three. And of course in the mean time the original female had had a load more....

Don't get me wrong. The first time the fish gave birth in the tank, it was very cool, but I was relieved when I managed to get the LFS to take them all in part-ex for some other stuff and got back down to two male guppies.

Oh brill I just expect mine to get eaten before i see them.
I may just do what you said keep buying tanks. I guess they will soon wear the little male out. He is so thin poor guy and if i feed he'll get little as the mares are so hungry.
If I put him in my big tank I guess he'll be eaten by the tetra or Gouramis or ?? Tiger barbs ? Do they eat them? Thats if I could catchhim he's small and fast
