I noticed today that one of my female guppies has some sort of pointy formation on her belly. It doesn't look like she's pregnant to me, but I really have no clue what it is. I just noticed it this evening, but I'm not sure exactly how long its been that way. No more than a day I don't think, but got home late last night and didn't check them. Anyway, here's a pic. Any suggestions on what I should do? Meds, quarantine, etc?

Also, just changed 50% of the water on monday, tested all stats then and everything was good. It's a ten gallon planted tank with two other adults, some fry, and 2 ottos. I'm doing EI ferts and co2, if that makes a difference. Feed omega flake and occasionally algea/shrimp pellets.

Thanks,

Ive been looking around a little bit and I'm wondering if this is a tumor? It doesn't look like the pictures of dropsy i found online, but maybe it is just in the early stages.....anyway, any help would really be appreciated

Hmmm, i honestly have no idea. It almost looks like she swalloed a pipe and its sticking otu of her belly! Maybe she got injured and that pointy thing is a internal organ that got messed around with? I honestly have no clue. Ohhh, and read my post on the 30g journal. I will be willing to sell guppies.

Hmm, thanks for your reply krib. I have no idea what it is either! She seems fine otherwise...is eating and swimming.

Does it look like a cyst.
Does it look hard or like its filled with fluid.

Ok if its a tumour meds won't cure it.
All you can do is issolate the sick fish and try a bacterial med.

my male guppy got somthing like that but he just finished eating and it went away the next day

When I woke up this morning, the thing was gone....should I worry? Or just leave it be?

Thanks,
Laura

Probably just bloating. When it happens again, feed her a pea with no shell (a cooked pea) and fast the next day.

Dude, that isnt bloating. Bloating would mean that her WHOLE stomach is HUGE, not a obvious protrusion for her midsection.

Ok mabye her fry went down the wrong tube lol.

Also if it went away so quickly I dont really know what other kind of obvious protrusion it could be .

I've been watching her the past few days and she seems fine....

I don't know if this would have anything to do with it, but I realized I'd given the guppies some a couple shrimp pellets about 2 days prior to this thing showing up...I usually just feed flake and algae wafers (for the ottos in the tank). Maybe she was constipated...I don't know, it was such a wierd bump....

Anyway, thanks all for your interest and comments. If I notice it again I'll give her a pea.
