15 days ago one of my guppies gave birth to 8 fry and was still very gravid and fat! She looks like she is going to explode but she still hasnt had anymore over 2 weeks later. Is this normal? She seems perfectly happy although she isnt eating alot. Could she be ill or could one of the babies be stuck?

yes, before giving birth she already producing the next batch of eggs.
So once she gives birth she'll be fertilizing the eggs.

Thats why they stay fat most of the time.

That explains why my platty is still huge then, does this mean the second pregnancy will be shorter than the first if the eggs are ready? the first was altlest 6 weeks so I'm just trying to work out when to expect more fry.

No the eggs are not fertailised until or around the same time as the fry are born.

Expect guppies or endlers intervals to be between 4 and 6 weeks depending on temperature. At 78F it will be noticeably shorter than at 72F.

no desrespect to the above comments but they aint exactly correct...

Depending on your fish's size, thye should not stay fat after giving birth, they should be very slim...

Now the important thing that needs to be asked here is...

Is your fish fat in the belly more at her head end or the anal fin end?...

There is no point in going by the gravid spot, size is what is the best indication as livebearers can have light or dark gravid spots pregnant or not.

Sorry for not replying quicker but Ive had one of the kids bugs and have been feeling pretty yucky the last few days!
She seems to have given birth to some more as her tummy although still big now has a flatter look to it, so Im happy that she must be ok.
Right, Im crawling back to my sick bed now!
