Hi all,

I found one of my male guppies stuck on the filter yesterday with torn tail, at first i though he was dead, but he was still alive so today put him in a seprate 35 litre tank, heater, fluval u1 filter with old tank media (cut some) and then I brought interpet fin rot med, put 5-6 mls mixed in water then put in tank with injured guppy.

Is the anything else i need to do?

Thanks

He should be fine. I had this happen once and as long as you keep the water stats perfect it should heal within a week. I wouldn't really bother about putting him into a separate tank or using meds, it will heal by itself with good water quality.

+27 :good:

Ahh okay kool, I put him in a seprate tank with a little med..! (before posting on here!)

Shall i put him back in the main tank tomorrow? Worried other fish might pick on him or he'l get stuck somewhere behind the plants.. Etc

If the other fish were fine with him before there shouldn't be a problem now. They are probably going to be happy to see their friend again.

Hmm True, I will put him back tomorrow morning, the fish are 'sleeping' now dont want to disturb them now, :)

Or shall I put him back now? Lol

If all are safe and asleep, leave it for now, but return him tomorrow. As I said, don't worry, his fins will grow back. Had exactly the same with a female guppy, also stuck by the filter and she recovered in no time.

Yes, definately! Just keep the water clean and watch the edge (in case he is weak) for any sign of it not healing well (white or grey edge).

The tail on one of my female guppies was bitten up recently by the males and its been about 2 weeks now that she is back in her own tank (had a disaster there so she had to be removed for about a month)... her tail is about 3/4 grown back where it was missing... its still clear there but coming in nicely.

He's back in the tank! Seems to be doing well.. I'l see if i can get a pic later on..

I found another one of my two remaining guppies dead stuck under a wood piece today.. Cant believe it.. Just got one guppy left now.. Dont think I ever get guppies again, lost too many.. And all in odd ways.. :(

Oh no!

I've had a hard time with guppies not long ago after having a huge long stretch of great times. If you love guppies, don't dispare. Maybe you need to scrub down your tank and start fresh? I chose to clean my tank and keep the filter cycled (not replacing it) then putting fish in straight away. Has worked for me... but sometimes a cleaning with bleach is needed and a whole cleaning of the filter.

Hope you have happy fishie days again!
