Hello Everyone,

I have not been online for a while and this forum changed a lot. Look great I can not wait to see the renovations

I am back with a question. My largest female guppy has a curved back. She has always had it never had a problem with it. However I moved her from our 5 gallon tank which was too small for her I think to our 10 gal,

She has been in the tank for 2 days now and she looks like she has a problem. I have never had any type of sickness in the 5 gallon tank- it is an aquaponic tank but since I moved her it looks like it is harder for her to swim. She is on the bottom but just her tail is touching it otherwise she is swimming above it- she is breathing kind of fast. Looks like it is very hard for her to move her tail and every time she tries swimming up or around her tail seems heavier so it is hanging down.

I saw her eating only 1 time for those 2 days- today she went up only 2 times because the rest of the fish gets overexcited when I am feeding them and she needs time to maneuver around them but they are too fast so it looked like she tried to eat for a moment and then gave up.

I am not sure what is going on with her. I went with the normal procedure I did 50 % water change, added a little salt and added also tetra lifeguard, I know it isnt a good idea to use it for her because I am not sure what is wrong with her, but I noticed that another guppy I moved from the 5 gal tank to this one has a tiny white dot on the top of her head so I got worried that they are getting sick and I decided to do treatment just in case...

Back to this guppy another thing I noticed is that she did 2 times when she is breathing it looked like she sneezed - i know that is not possible and it looks like she had problem breathing or was trying to swim and wiggled strange so i just hope the salt works and the medicine too.

That tank has been with perfect water condition and no problems for at least 5 months now. One of my male guppies died 3 days ago but it was combined with another male guppy that died in the 5 gal tank and both of them looked healthy also were bought together over 8 months ago from wallmart... so i am thinking they might of been just old... Anyways I found this article http://en.allexperts...8/6/guppy-1.htm which sounds exactly like my female I just wonder if there is a way for me to help her start swimming normal again or is she just getting old or may be i have something going on in the tank...

Anyways let me know what you guys think could be done to help this guppy out.

She is almost 2 inches long and around 9 months old.

Have a good day

hmm... hard situation, i cant tell what exactly is wrong with her. is she pregnant? white dots on other fish, hard time breathing, broken tail... very awkward. post some photos of the fish that have problems, it might be a desease. also, if you can, put the guppy with the broken tail in a seperate tank alone so she can eat. oh and also, if you see more white dots on other fish isolate them too. oh and for that article, yeah, it might just be the fish getting older but it shouldnt affect the other fish.

its either old, a poorly bred fish or had fish tb. dont be suprised if it does soon. sorry

Oh guys it is OK, she might of been poorly bred because when I got her she was a little baby and when she grew up her spine was like this... I will take a pic of her if I can get her the right way, she still tries to swim towards me when I am close to the glass... just wish she can still swim normal... i will check on her this morning when I get home I am still at work now... If she dies it is OK she is my favorite female though so I hope it is something temporarily and she gets better.

For the other fish, there is no white dots or any problems with them, it just seems like this second female guppy that we moved from the 5 gal to the 10 gal has a white dot that we noticed yesterday, I can not figure out if it is fungus or just her scale is gone on that spot... May be she got hurt when we were catching her with the net... I will keep you posted. I know the medicine will clear it up if it is some kind of ick or fungus... I hope the other lady starts eating. She is not pregnant but that gives me an idea I have a plastic breeder should i may be try to put her in it, I will remove the bottom so I can give her more space. but then I dont want to stress her out, i have a small 2 gal fish tank that I can put her in, but Im not sure if it is worth setting it up just for her. What do you guys think ? I hope she is still alive when I go home :( It is just a guppy and I have a ton of babies but I love this one...

I will try to get her on a pic if she is still alive when I get home.

How do you water stats compare with the tank your guppy was in previously? Maybe there is a difference in ph or whatnot and she is shocked? Could be she also needs more time to adjust and get used to her new tank.

i think that the white spots might be white spot diseasso try to cure that with white spot treatment and the weared back soands like a bent back, fish noget that if they are cramped, so maybe u might to many fish in that tank. i would suggest that u move her in to the 2 gallon so that if she has got white spot it doesnt spread.

Hello guys, thank you for all the replays just to close the topic. I treated the tank with Tetra Lifeguard and the white spot disappear from the first female, the second female with the curved back unfortunately did not make it and died... but the tanks are pretty much doing good i swapped fish around so they are not too overcrowded also gave to my local pet store at least 5 fishes and are gonna give them more once the fry I have gets big enough.
