I have a 55 gallon tank... With a bunch of guppies (some of which I will be getting rid of soon) and fry, a common pleco and two bristlenose plecos (male and female).

I was wondering if there was another fish (bigger than a guppy) that would get along with the guppies?

I'm not a big fan of molly and platy.

Gourami could work, and in a 55gal you could keep pretty much any variety of them.

I would go with gourami too, I love the sunset honey gouramis and the powder blue. I have a honey in my 29 gallon community and it gets along with all my fish including guppies (and fry), neons, and plecos

ok! I might be making a trip to the store later! I love the guppies.. But the tank just looks like it is missing something. Lol.

i Might get a dwarf gourami. Do they do better single or in a group or what?

If you don't mind something that will eat the fry, then you consider bolivian or german blue ram cichlids. They don't get huge (2-3 inches) and you could get just one or a pair. Just something else to consider

I di like the rams. I saw them on my last fish buying trip. But I don't know that I would feel good about putting something in the tank that I know is eating cute babies! Even though population control is going to start being a problem with the 55 gallon I can already tell! Too many hiding places!

I've never had a true dwarf gourami, I think they're a tad bit on the aggressive side but they are beautiful. I would guess either get one individual dwarf or a pair. I think having more than one male might cause unneeded aggression

I have a guppy tank also 55 gallon and I have a pair of rams in it (blue) it's a really nice combo, also I have a variety of loaches, I think you'd love the activity a couple golden dojos will give you.

I considered dojos. But I think they require a little lower temp. (not that I didn't totally just buy a rubberlip......) and I really want some kuhlis... But the local lfs chain doesn't get them anymore because they are "emotional" fish and don't do well with shipping... Or some bs like that. Lol.

kuhlis are cool, but don't have the personality of a dojo, I keep dojos in with my guppies and it's never been a problem, I remember we had one when I was little that lived for years and years and years and got so big he looked like a white hotdog with whiskers!  It's your choice though I have both in my tank, and some yoyos.  Really you can't go wrong with any kind of loach provided you have the space. (dojos too, if you get a good one will "play" with you and almost want to be petted when you work on the tank, one of mine likes to nibble all the bubbles off my hand.)

I also really like the pygmy cory cats.  So cute!  Just get a group of 5-6 and they will vacuum up your tank nicely.  Plus they like to lay down in unique places like on leaves.

My kulis came from petsmart, and they are really affordable from them at least here. Never seen them above $2.
