wasn't sure where to put this, since it isn't so much an emergency as just a worry...
if it's in the wrong section, please feel free to move to wherever the right section is...

a couple of my guppies had some bits missing from their tail fins when I got them (and I didn't know enough at the time to say not those ones)

one of them has a split almost splitting the tail fin into 2. just above the middle. he seems happy enough and it doesn't seem to affect his swimming.

and one seemed to have more like a chunk or rectangle section missing from the back. again, seems fine...

my real question is about growth.
1. will they regrow and repair the tails?
2. if so what will that look like?

I can see (moreso on the one with a missing chunk) some thin white edge on the back of the tail. another site seemed to say this was an infection, but it wasn't there before, end it's further out than where the tail used to be, and to me looks like new growth of the fin.

should I be concerned? and dose somekind of treatment? or am I right in thinking this is new growth and is no reason to worry?

What are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

is your stocking still the same in your sig.

Seen any fin nipping going off.
Split fins will heal on there own in good water quality. Is quite common for livebearers to get split fins.

The white edging does it look fluffy like cotton wool.
White edging can be a sign of finrot.
Fins will heal if the strain of bacteria not severe that it kills the fish.

Ammonia - 0.1 (and coming down) has been consistently kept under 0.2, since I'd do a water change before it hit .25
nitrite - 0
nitrate - 0.1 - 0.2 dependant on time from last water change
ph - 7.5 (ish)

not seen any nipping, they had the damage already when I got them. And have not gotten worse since I got them.

Not sure about cotton wool, I suppose it could be looked at like that, but to me it looks more like thin tail with no colouring...

Stocking is pretty much the same but I added a couple more corys to keep them happy.

If it is finrot what can I give them? Is there anything I can just put in the main tank since I don't have a hospital yet.

UPDATE:

The white on the edge is now going clearer or blacker to fit in with patterns... so if it was fin-rot, hopefully it's clearing up on its own... other wise i could have been right and it was new growth...

stats are better today too, with both nitrite and ammonia both reading 0. so it could also be due to my water not being good enough but now it's getting better, so are the fins?

The ammonia reading won't be helping. Dosn't matter if it slight ammonia reading it can still do damage.
