Hi all,

I've noticed that all my guppies which have coloured up (around 2+ months of age now) have turned out to be female (Yes!!!). Is what sex they turn into got to do with water quality/temperature at the time of conception?

Or is it really, truly a random things, as it is in Humans?

Also, I have noticed that all my new babies have tails like tadpoles, whereas these older ones had normal rounded tails at birth. All my adults have normal tails, so not sure why the new ones have arrow pointed, tapering tails? Is this OK, or a bit of an anomaly?

I guess that's alright. Unless they have problems swimming, then nah it shouldn't be a problem. And i think it is just pure luck, the same as humans really. Anyway, hope you have a tank full of babies.

At two months they haven't shown sexual maturity.  You probably will have males show up soon.  And the fry do have round tails, they are just much harder to see because of how small and they are clear.

Nah - the fry that I am seeing definitely do NOT have the normal tails. Bigger ones do, as do some of the smaller ones with fully clear tails. I will try to take a photo of some of them later - there is more than one with the tapering tails.

Huh, weird, maybe you have some with tails that will turn out like a streamer.  One of my ag. teachers has a male guppy with a streamer like tail. :)

Here is a video I took tonight of the guppies. Hopefully you can see their tails (they do blend into the rocks a bit).

I've posted some pics of the guppies with the tapering tails in the Livebearers journals & photograph subforum. :)
