Hey. I am planning on buying some guppies. Before I do this though I had a couple questions, the main one being, what is the feamle to male ratio?! Also for thoes of you who have a Petsmart and Petco near you which one has better guppies?! I have never breed fish before so I am very interested in breeding my guppies, does anyone have any advice on that?! Lasly how can you determine the gender. Sorry for so many questions. Oh and Happy Christmas Eve ( or Happy Holidays ).

As for all common livebearers, and most uncommon ones too, at least 2 female per male when you're talking about up to 20 fish or so. In very large groups, the ratio does not matter as much.

If you have hard water and a large clump of Java moss, then you're set to go for breeding, if you have soft water, please reconsider keeping them or add some reef bones (dead reef rock) as decor.

Males have gonopodiums, females have anal tails: this is the only 100% reliable way to tell sex in mature fish.
