Hi there.

Just a question about my guppy, she is really fat and got the gravid spot, i posted on here few weeks ago about it and I have not seen here giving birth.

When she does, does the gravid black spot dissapear straight away. or could she have allready given birth and the babies eaten by my angel fish?????

currently cycling a sponge filter for my breeding tank.

She could be holding. Just about anything will eat their fry, and If angels are in the tank with them, then if she did deliver, then the angels ate the fry. Guppies usually breed every 4 weeks. She could have delivered and be holding again. Good luck with the fry.

The black is a lineing on the inside of the body cavity, and when pregnant you see it clearer, but it never dissapears totally.

Also yes angels love baby guppies and will eat every one they get near.

how do u know she has a while, how can you tell. How long do you rekon???? she is like double the size of the male now.

When the back end of the belly dropps this is a sign of nearing birth.

I'll say at least a week or so

I am ready to agree with HelterSkelter. That female is not very close to a fry drop and is at least a week away. I have no idea what happened to the fry she may have been carrying but they are not being held back, she is not ready yet to drop fry just yet. I gave up years ago trying to judge the livebearers by the color of the gravid spot, I find it meaningless. Instead I look for a squarish shape to the fish's belly and do not expect to see anything from most female livebearers until their belly becomes quite square looking. In goodeids, I don't expect any fry until the female's belly near the anal fin is twice as deep as what you might expect from a comparable sized male.
