Hello all,
I am new to breeding fish and i am curious about somthing that happened.
I bought some guppy fish and one was heavily pregnant so i put her in a breeding box for her to have her fry, 12 hours later she had 9 fry. I was advised to leave her in the box for 24 hours after giving birth for her to regain her energy. i had been keeping my eye on her for the 24 hours, she was due to come out of the box but i forgot and she was left a few more hours. when i came back to her she had had another 9 more fish, this was after the 24hours???

why did this happen like this?

It can take some females quite a while to have all their babys so thats nothing unusual , you can usually be sure they have had them all when the female has gone nice and slim and the gravid spot is hardly noticable again then i find approximatly 28 - 31 days later she will have her next lot .

Welcome to the forum AmyAmy.
A typical drop will take only a few hours but there are exceptions. If it is taking your female as much as 2 or 3 days, it should still be fine. Mine always seem to finish a drop in a matter of hours but I do not subject them to the stress of a breeder. Breeder traps are known to sometimes induce a bit earlier drop which might take longer to finish.
