I have a male guppy who seems to be ill.

I got home today and noticed one of my guppies was missing, so I searched the tank and finally found him hidden under one of my ornaments. When I lifted it up he swam out from underneath it and sank to the bottom straight away. He lies down on the gravel and sometimes swims about but then goes back down. I fed him a flake or two and he ate some of it. I also gave him a pea which he had a go off. Does anyone know what is up with him? He seems to look like he is longer than usually (like he has been stretched). He got under the ornament because theres a hole in the back for the fish to hide in. He is only a few weeks in my tank and he was fine yesterday. My parameters for ammonia and nitrite are both 0 and I did a water change yesterday as part of my weekly clean.

Please help. Thanks.

Due to Guppys being very, very popular they are bred in such a way that their DNA is next to useless...

How long have you had your tank? Did you cycle your filter?

Fish have been in there for just over 3 weeks now.

Assuming your filter was mature...
As the above poster mentions guppy's are notoriously weak and sometimes do not acclimatise well. When imported (by the shop) from Singapore or other Asian suppliers the guppys can be bred in 'brackish' conditions.

It may be helpful in your case (assuming its still alive as i post) to add a little salt to help gill function ( not table salt ) and use to 'Anti-internal parasite' treatment.

Hope your fish makes it. :good:

Mr Guppy is still alive today,

He was swimming around and acting alot better yesterday, but when I turned the lights on again this morning, he was lying on the gravel.

Hopefully he is still ok when I get home from work.
