Hello,

I purchased 2 colourful male guppys yesterday. so i could breed with the females that i have.

I quarantined the two in my 3g tank(usually leave them a week) before adding to my community to make sure they are going to be okay, Looked in on them this morning and one had jumped out the tank.

I have never had this happen before and i was wondering if this was normal for guppys to jump?

All livebearers will jump, swordtails are the worst though.

Sorry for the loss though.

I've had a couple of endlers jump out of the tank when I was doing a water change and I've heard that they can jump up to 2 feet. Fortunately with mine I noticed them before they died and managed to get them back in the tank....

I have a female that when I put her in a breeding net for her to have her fry, manages to jump out everytime! She goes to the bottom and darts straight up until she manages to escape.

i had one jump out didnt notice it till the 2 cats were playing with it on the floor. I picked it up it was bleeding a wee bit from cat claws put it in water just to check it was dead but it wasnt!!!

treated it with melafix about 2 weeks later back to full health, better than it had ever been

i found one of my female bettas in the gravel vav hose yesterday night:O luckily there was still a bit of water left in there..i think she would have dided otherwise ..poor thing

unlucky, one of my babie molly jumped out but lucky i got it back in time

Yer, swordtails are buggers!

I was cleaning the tank yesterday with the hood off. I moved the vac from one end to the other a bit too quick and the male shot out onto my desk!

Least to say i s*** myself lol! grabbed it and got it back in, seems fine though.

Wow, I'm glad I read this. I didnt' know guppies would do that. I haven't experience that but I have a lid on my tank and my guppies are usually too busy chasing each other around when I do water changes.

no i dont think guppies jump maybe it got scared ive never heard of guppies jumping out of tanks maybe its just full of energy lol

a guppy wont jump out of a tank atleast if u dont scare it

Incorrect all guppies will jump, just the larger the tail the harder they find it to jump, so round and coffer tails (also wild/endler types) will be able to jump better than cultavated types.
