Recently my guppy developed some weird red/brown edge to his tail almost instantly, like just over night. A couple months ago, he had been attacked by 3 new tetra's which I rehomed, so his tail was nipped pretty badly but I did salt baths 15-20 minutes a day for a week to prevent any possible infections, and he did really well up until last week, when I noticed the red edge at the very tip of the tail. His nipped tail hadn't really grown back, but I figured it took time, but now I think it's something else. Unfortunately it happened 3 days before I had to leave for a week, so I started him on some meds that I used to treat a fungus infection on one of my fish. I can't remember the name, but I want to say it was API... it came with packets of white powder and you use the treatment for 4 days, and it treats multiple things- fungus, septicemia, fin rot, parasites... It worked on my little tetra, and I assumed the tail thing with my guppy were possible signs of fin rot (possibly from the attack months prior?) Anyways, he was treated and the person who is taking care of my fish atm put him back in the tank, because I thought he was healed. I wasn't there at the time he was put in though, so I only guessed. I asked about the guppy today, only to be told the stuff on his tail was still there. I'm having them move him back into the quarantine tank and treating him with a little salt until I get back, which will be Saturday, unless I get a better suggestion. The little guy is still eating and active, but I have no idea what this is and there's no way to get a picture of the tail atm. It's literally a nipped tail, but it's lined with a small amount of reddish brown gunk or something. I can't have the guy get a picture of the guppy either because the QT he's in isn't see through and you can only see this stuff sideways.
Any ideas what this is and what I can do to treat it? Maybe a 2nd dose of meds?
