Roughly when do guppy fry start to develop their colouring? I have 34 X 1 week-old guppies in one of my tanks at the moment. 14 are from a yellow mother and are all yellow, but the 20 from the black mother have started to get really spotty in the last few days. It's only black, there's no actual "pretty" colour there yet or anything, but when could I expect to start seeing some proper colouring?

They're all from the really fancy parents, if that makes any difference.

Cheers.

I could take a couple of months but just be patient, if you feed them good quality fry foods there colors will come out a bit earlier(i find TetraMinfry is good)- the speckled coloring is normal for black guppys and will get darker and denser as the fry grows before turning completly black  .

Yeah, I'd heard about 6 to 8 weeks, but wasn't sure what the deal was with the speckles. They're gorgeous, though. I had a couple of unsuccessful attempts where I unintentionally brought home sick guppies from WalMart and eventually lost the whole tank to disease, so I'm hoping this time I will have a bit more success.
These guys/girls are on a mixed diet of baby brine shrimp (frozen, initially, until I hatched a few fresh batches) and Hakiri First Bites powdery stuff. They seem to love it.

Thank you for your reply :)

wow, your one week old fry have solid yellow coloring???? i have been breeding mosaic guppies for a few months now and see almost no coloring for the first month usually (with about 15% exception that show coloring much earlier)...

i feed frozen baby brine and hikari first bites...the tank is at 80F and is lightly planted....

They were all born solid yellow...

I don't want to freak you out but I've had half black fry that had solid black on them, only now that they're bigger it's gotten red, orange, and even blue in them. Of course, mine are mutts (I even threw some male feeders in with my girls), so you probably will have them turn out like the parents lol.

Yep, she's solid yellow too...I'll try and get some pictures if anyone's interested?

I don't really mind what colour they turn out...everyone thinks their own children are gorgeous regardless :p

I'd love to see pictures. I have a few yellow females too, and I'm curious to see if mine look like your's. :)

Yep, pics are always lovely to see ! :D

Here are some of the babies and their parents...

I apologise if this takes ages to load...I'm sorta new to it, but if it is let me know and I ca swap it out for just the URLs.
