Guppy Fry

From what I have read its normally 4 to 6 weeks before you can tell for sure. One of the livebearer experts can probably confirm this

yeh it is usually around the 6 week mark maybe a little higher but yes weaver u r correct.

I've never seen an actual gonopodium that early. I've noticed they have pointier anal fins, but that's about it. Maybe a little more color. That's one way to sex them, once you know what you're looking for. The earliest I have ever seen a male get a full blown gonopodium is about 2 months.

You guys have actually seen gonopodiums at 6 weeks? What do you feed your fry, steroids? Or maybe I have little slow-pokes.

Nah
Ive got such a dolly mixture of fry in the fry tank at the minute that Im reading up everything to do with livebearer fry that I can get my hands on.
Ive just came back from my twice weekly stalk of the lfs and actually saw some being born while I was there

yeh whats wrong wid puttin fry on steroids Lol no i read around the 6 week mark.

I guess you technically can sex them at 6 weeks, by the pointier anal fin and smaller stomach (If you didn't just feed them). But if we're talking about full gonopodiums...I'd say 2-3 months. :)

Weaver - Did you look in the FAQs? Toxis and I wrote an article, it has some information in it about fry. Might find that helpful.

I wasn't trying to prove you wrong, please don't think that! I was just adding in my experiences. :)

i never said u were.Let me guess u specilise in pregancy in fish n livebearing n stuff.

Yes Annastasia
Ive read all the articles and they are all really really helpful
I suppose after a while I will get more blase about them but at the minute Im still like a new dad.Spotted some little orange fry in the livebearer tank this morning and have transferred them over so the fry range from nearly 3 weeks old to 1 day.The lfs has said he will take whatever I breed as he knows I look after the fish properly so I have an outlet for them

Sorry,Unspoken,for hijacking thread. :/

Yeah, just remember...they're hardier then you think. They're used to having to survive out in the wild (community tank :p ). Congrats on the new ones, and I'm glad you have a place for them!

And yes, sorry Unspoken for the hi-jacking. *slaps self*
