Hi there, thanks for looking at this, i'm a bit of a Noob.

Recently, I got decided i'd like to breed Guppies. I have a connection with a LFS, and they've told me they'll buy all the fry they can from me, as they have no contract with a big retailer.
I currently only have four fry, it was the female's first lot. However I have more females, about seven, who are all pregnant. I have a couple of tanks to put the fry in, but i'ma bit unsure of how to set these tanks up, i.e. with a filter/ gravel etc.
I was wondering if anyone could just tell me the best way to set up fry tanks, to ensure the best possible qualities for my fry.

Thank you

My fry tank has no gravel, as i can see the dirt and clean it easily.
I also have floating plants, so if any of them want to hide from the bigger fry they can.
I also use a fry filter, this keeps it oxygenated and clean :) http://www.google.co...iw=1366&bih=613
I'm lucky as my platies and swordtails only have 10-20 a time.
Are you going to use breeder traps?

Hi there,

In my 30 gallon breeding tank, I have a breeder box, and it has 4 fry in it, but i'd rather use a tank. I thought a tank would be too big for just four fry.

30 gallon, thats good same as mine, what i do is let the female have the babies in the breeder box and then transfer them to the tank. If you've got floating plants, they will feed off that a bit for the first few days rather than the food you give them.
I would move the four when there are more babies or when you the female is about to have fry
You are right though for 4 fry it will be a bit big, so might be better to keep them a bit longer until they are bigger.

just wondering...what store agreed to take the fry? Because I'm wondering what to do with mine...there may not be one where i live but its worth a shot :)

I have two local stores that agreed to take fry, one will pay the other only takes donations, but one that would pay just closed. pets and pals is the name of the donation shop

oh i don't think there's one where i live..ive been trying to find a local store for FOREVERRR..thanks anyway! :)

Welcome to the forum Guplars.
A 30 gallon tank is just right if you intend to raise large quantities of randomly bred guppies. Go ahead and put some nice cover in that tank, like maybe some java moss. After it is running with the java moss in it place your adult females and any fry you have in the tank. The fry will be mostly ignored and the females will proceed to fill the tank to busting with fry. A the fry mature, sell off the adults every couple of months, not the fry. I do that with this 10 gallon tank and pull about 10 to 15 adult guppies for sale out of it every 3 months. With 30 gallons I could be pulling 50 adults at a time, which is enough for a commercial LFS to dedicate a tank to.

The plant below those guppies is java moss.
