My guppy just had fry. I bought a 10g tank and put a filter on it and put the fry in the tank. I was wondering if i need a heat source of any type or no? Also do I need gravel or a tank light? I have them at room temperature (71 F.) right now.

your room temp is pretty warm, im assuming that this is the tank temp though. Wondering how much it fluctuates throught the day. The fry dont need gravel i prefer bare bottom (easier to keep clean), a light might be helpful. Also beware of the filter sucking up the babies if it a HOB filter try attaching either panyhose, or a filter sponge over the inlet.

The room temp. does not change greatly but only rises a up 1 degree during the day and drops down to 71 during the night. I have the filter inlet covered so no babies are sucked up.

With the room at 71F, the fry will be fine without a heater. They will grow a bit slower than they would at 75F but they will also live longer at lower temperatures.

i had no gravel in my tank not plants until they got bigger and i use soups stocking on the filter to keep the fry from being sucked in. i also had a heater in the tank too.
