My lone male guppy is definitely lonely, he is chasing the female platys and I think he is getting a bit frustrated.

I have been advised to get 2 or 3 females for him, but I'm not keen on breeding as the lfs won't take the fry and I don't have any capacity to keep them.

I know that if I let them take their chances in the aquarium, a lot of them will disappear naturally, but I know from my experience with a pregnant platy that a few tend to survive, especially in a planted aquarium.

So I was wondering about getting a fish or two which would keep the numbers down for me, and wondered if anyone had any suggestions that would work with the stocking below. Obviously I can't get any huge predators in a tank that size.

Or is there any alternative way to cheer up my guppy and take some of the pressure off my poor female platys?

I would go down the route of getting 2-3 females. Getting more male guppies would be a good short term solution but if you wanted to add more females in the future there would be a problem. Could also affect other possible future purchases of female livebearers.

If there are others (other species) in the tank then the possibility if fry overcrowding is not that big of a issue..... and your male would be much happier!

Is there any fish I could buy to keep the numbers down? I wondered if something like a dwarf gourami would be a good idea?
