I read in 'Livebearers, Stocking and Fry, a quick guide' that it is illegal in the UK to feed fry to other fish. Does this mean that I cannot add a male and two female guppies to my community tank? It contains some badis badis which will take only live food.

whether its illegal or not (and i think it technically is in UK) who's going to know and more more importantly whos going to care? and even more importantly, who's going to have to time to care? feed away

its illegal to have feeder fish at all in the UK but if you put guppies in your community tank and all the fry got eaten it wouldn't matter because you didnt feed them feeder fish on purpose

Thats a good point orange shark. I would not have thought of that but it would be true.

Big fish eat little fish.....the law of nature. I'm surpirsed the UK allows people to put worms on hooks when they go fishing....sheesh

huh why would it be illegal if you have a snake that only eats live food what are you going to do then ?

It is legal to use feeders in the UK, provided that there is no undue harm (read slow painful death) to the feeder fish, and the animal eating them can not survive without live food. I'm not sure on the wording, as I'm not from the UK, but folks like CFC keep larger predatory fish that need live food, and they have no problem with it.

Im from the UK and by no means I am speaking officially, and im not saying im all for it or not, but I find it hard to believe its illegal, as alot of species as someone correctly mentioned only take live foods etc.....

My friend had a red bellied pirana (sp) and he was telling us it was illegal to buy it 'live' food so he had to find something else to feed it as it started eating his other fish

Oh ok, maybe someone can find out for sure and let us all know, as its interesting.

I really doubt it's illegal, or at least I hope not, because if I lived over there I'd be in jail by now. How can they tell? Do they send fish patrol to your house? It's the equivalent of arresting someone for having ammonia in their water - it just doesn't happen. Feed away.

it is in the UK they kinda ask you why you want the fish and if you say you have a fish that likes fish they wont sell you fish for it to eat.

was listening to a guy asking for some goldfish to feed his pirana the toher day and he told him where he could actually go to to get them
