Guppy Food

Well adult guppys should not just be fed the food they like the most but a balanced diet is more important in many ways- guppys eat both meat and veg so these too things must be included in their diet(im gonna exclude fish flakes as although they can live entirely off these, for a true guppy diet they can live off other things as well and are more natural as you don't exactly get fish flake trees in the wild);
a. freezdried/fresh/frozen bloodworms, daphinia, tubifex, krill fresh prawns(take off the shell and legs/tail of the prawn though) and cooked de-shelled chopped up peas and algae wafers/tablets and crushed snails you find in their tank.
Fry can live off all these things but they must be crushed/chopped up into much smaller mouth sized meals for them though, you should also feed them hikari "first bites" and/or TetraMinfry as these are great fry foods that offer all the nutrition fry need.
You should also do a water change the day after you feed your fish any of the un-freezdried foods as live or frozen/fresh foods(especially prawns) will worsen water quality alot/make it bad.

I feed my adult and guppy fry ALL of these things and are weaning them off the fish flakes as they seen to be alot healthier when fed such a varied natural diet, but i wouldn't advise just feeding them solely off tubifex, bloodworms and krill for example unless you are willing to give them the complete diet :thumbs: .

My Guppies love Brine Shrimp, Bloodworms, Daphnia...basically any live food. But since I don't have the heart to give live, they either get frozen or freeze-dried. Along with their other foods, like veggies, and flakes.

And the fry...they seem to like the same thing, plus Hikari First Bites, when they are younger. :)

You have to make sure you don't just give them their favorite foods, they need a balanced diet, like us. :thumbs:

Edit: Okay, Toxis beat me to it. :p

You can also get bloodworms, brine shrimp and daphnia jellied in handy little sachets; they seem to make less mess than the frozen stuff and you can handfeed the fish straight out of the sachet. Mine love their peas, frozen, slightly boiled with the shell taken off, and mashed up a bit (though guppies are quite capable of chewing bits off); they also eat spinach and chard, again lightly boiled. Alternating the above with tropical flakes should give a good balanced diet.
