I have two very pregnant guppies that i've only had for 3 days.

They're displaying the normal behaviour of females preparing to give birth, staying very still beneath floating plants or hiding down low amongst foliage.

One of them has had a very dilated anal area for about 48 hours which is also very red - not sure if it's dilation or inflammation? There are also tiny reds stringy bits coming out which are of particular concern since it could be intestinal worms?

The other has slightly grey-ish poo, again, not sure if its an intestinal problem or the start of birth!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've now discovered this to be Callamanus worms - great... I've only had the fish 3 days.

I've ordered some Nera Sematol and Anti Internal Bacteria treatment.

Would i be within my right to return the fish to the shop i bought it and get another? I'm going to treat it, and will have to treat the whole tank now in case of contamination.

If it dies would the LFS replace it? After all, it was infected before i purchased it!

If you find camallanus in a new fish, by all means return it. You definitely do not want to have to deal with it in your tanks. Thank goodness you found it while the new fish were still in quarantine.

The one with callamanus died this morning.

The heavily pregnant one is now on the bottom, upside down and totally paralyzed apart from her pectoral fins. She has no signs of worms from her anus but her faeces have been grey.

Don't think she's long for this world, but she's displaying very different signs that the other, who would just stay still, and upright, but swim feebly if the water was disturbed.
