I just thought this was kind of neat, so I thought I would share it.

I got a beautiful blue guppy mix from the pet store. He looked like a mix between lyretail and fancy. The first half of him was white with lyretail spots. Then it suddenly ended and he was a dark blue colour after the white. His top fin is really long, and a light blue colour. His tail is light blue with dark blue flecks and white flecks. I had him in a tank with four Red Wag's. He was the only guppy in there since I had a very spooky occurrence happen (I had two guppies and one looked like he was sick and dying so I bought another one for my buddy who was still alive. Then the guy that was still alive died and I got this guy to be a buddy to the last one I got. Then the last one died. I don't want to get another one in case that one dies as well. Spooky.) and I didn't want it to happen to him. So for quite a few months, it was just him, the oto's, and the Red Wags. I noticed after a while that the blue in his tail turned orange like the Red Wag's! I thought that was very cool. It kind of ruined his look, but it's still cool that he 'adopted' the Red Wag's colouring!

Also, I put my female betta in that tank, and she is surprisingly okay with the guppy and the Red Wag's, and the oto fish and the snail.

I can't comment on the colour change, but my female betta is very happy in a tank with guppies, endlers and bn's. Of course, there are lots of hiding places for everyone to get away from each other should they want to, which they never seem to do, lol. My male betta is very happy in a tank with cherry barbs and cherry shrimp. Everyone coexists peacefully in my tanks. (Except the baby shrimp who make lovely snacks for everyone else, lol.)

If your guppies keep dying there may be something wrong. Check your water quality. And you should quarantine new fish for a couple of weeks to make sure they aren't sick before adding them to your tank. It may be that someone is sick and is passing it on to the others.

Good luck!

I believe there may be somebody sick, because I recently lost a Red Wag as well and trying to save another one. They all seem to be having the same thing. I'm looking into it.

I had a male guppy change color very dramatically. Could be he just wasn't mature enough when you bought him, some males take a long time to settle on a color.

Here is a photo of my most dramatic one, unfortunately he died from an illness.

Oh, that's very cool! Mine sort of looked like yours. With the tail and in the second picture, the 'lyretail' kind of markings. Could be he is just changing!
