Hey There,

My female guppy is suddenly as of today looking very bloated and her back is not straight anymore, it is bent with her tail pointing somewhat down rather than out straight. Could this be from pregnancy? She is pregnant, but is her tail supposed to bend downwards rather than be out straight?

She also is hiding and wants to be left alone, the boy was annoying her, so I have isolated her in her own private mini-tank, and she is seeming much happier and calm. And is still eating and pooing.

Is she really big, ready to burst? Maybe she is ready go give birth? I have 2 guppy fry in my tank, in a breeding net, but i missed the birth, as it was in the night, but the mum still looks pregnant, and i also have 4 other female guppies all pregnant, but none of them have anything wrong with there tails....

Keep an eye on her, im sure she will be fine :)

Sadly i have had platys go this way they bloat up and there tails bend, they die sorry, nothing to be done.

Most of our females do this when they get pregnant - particularly if it is a large brood. Unfortunately there is no way of reversing this, but unless it gets very bad they are usually fine. After the birth keep an eye on her to see how she is swimming - if she is not struggling then leave her be. If on the other hand she is so bent that she can't swim properly you will need to put her down :( . Sometimes they do get worse as time goes by and need putting down later, but most live the normal lifespan :) .
Hope this helps.

Thank you :* for all this. As long as I can know I am doing the best I can for her. Poor little thing looks about to pop. She is not constipated though, and is still eating, so I am hopeful.

The male guppies are perverts. They are courting the female mollies, balloon mollies, and platys. Is that all they ever think about is sex?! They can't cross-breed, can they?

 So true get randy with anything, no they won't breed with the other livebearers, just keep an eye on the fish with the bent tail, iv'e been there so no how you feel, you will no when she has had enough.

I've got one too. I believe she aborted her brood the other day; what came out looked like it might have contained unformed fry and she is no longer bloated. She is still passing what could be bits of fry sac though I'm not sure (doesn't look like any parasite I've seen or read of). Still eating happily but tail is bent and she is resting on the bottom more than she should. I'm not terribly hopeful.
