Hello all

Just a quick question about my pregnant guppy. When guppies are going to give birth do they have clamped finns and behave in an unusual way? All other fish in my tank are fine and water chem is all ok. My guppy seems very agitated.

Thanks ozric

My females clamp their fins sometimes during the birthing period, maybe as a sign as pushing, i really dont know. Often my female will pass back and forth then rest and out comes a couple of fry. Then she swims back and forth again, then more fry arrives, etc. She probably pases b/c giving birth is quite painful and having 30 fry I'm sure you wouldn't stay too still either. Just make sure she doesn't get overly stressed by an pushy males following her.

Thanks for your reply snowyangel

What time of the day does your guppy tend to give birth? Ive only just got into fishkeeping and find it difficult to tell. :dunno:

Thanks ozric

Most often at night, but you can dim the lights and they'll have them during the day sometimes. But now my females tend to have theirs during the the day so I guess it's how comfortable they are and if there's areas for them to rest/ hide in. :)
