hi all.

i have had a 60l hex tank running for a good few weeks now to get it cycled and all is well.

it is mainly for the wife as she wanted guppies but couldnt have them in the main tank due to tiger barbs etc.

went to our LFS at the weekend and got 4 male and 2 female guppies and eagerly put them in the tank. they look beautiful with their many splendid colours. noticed yesterday that the 2 females had really distended abdomens and dark gravispots. went to the LFS again to get a hatchery but by the time i got back the fry were born (hooray). however given the fact that i have 2 females that were probably pregnant i only have 3 fry in total. could it be that the females were very young and only produced a small batch of fry or could they have been eaten by the other fish in the tank whilst I wasn't around?

heres looking to 28 days time when they will probably bear fry again.

My guppies only had 3 fry as well, the other three are all getting on fine, didn't use anything to keep them from the rest, they just stay out of way.

I've had litters from 3-60+, so it's not that uncommon. It is also possible that some were eaten. But with your fish, you'll soon be having more. And more.

I don't do anything special with my fry, just make sure there are lots of places for them to hide. Java fern is good, as well as cabomba and hornwort. Then I grind up flake food for them. And everyone gets the occasional squashed peas.

Same as above, It can vary so much, I feed my fry on Crushed Flake also. And when there big enough they will get some good old blood worm :)

I'd probably do that too, if I had a source for bloodworm! I can only get freeze dried, and none of my fish like it.

i give all my fish frozen bloodworm and they absolutely love it (albeit after a good 20mins sat in 27 deg tank water prior to adding to tank)

i have 2 tanks, the first is 110l and the second is the 60l hex. I usually use 1 cube of worm a day and split it half per tank. the only fish that doesn't seem interested in the worm is my male bristlenose plecostomus. he just hides under his log all day and only comes out at night!!!

My clown doesent come out that much during the day. But has started too come out more since feeding them with blood worm, I too only buy frozen, I can buy live. But dont like too. I just sit it in a egg cup with some 26Degrees tank water. And when i pop it in my tanks they love it :)

congrats on the fry :good: i am currently waiting for my gup to drop she should be any day now, not had guppy fry in years

i have just setup a 18 litre tank for my fry. got it off ebay for 10.51
total costs in setup
2 x bags aquatic sand £4
tank £10.51
heater £12.99
already had an airbox filter and airpump so it is set up and the fry are in there and seem quite happy. feeding them baby brine shrimp paste at the minute and they seem to have grown every time I look at them. just waiting for my other female to bear young and they will go in their also. i put her in the hatchery today cos i though she was gonna drop but she just jumped over the edge and into the main tank lol. little #29###!! i guess that when she is actually ready to drop her fry she won't feel like jumping anywhere!!

newbie here started with 2 female guppies got 3 stages of fry now plus 6 platty fry all in 55 gal with 3 male guppies 4 female 1 male plattys, they are fast and stay outta the way of other fish, or I have so many it dosen't matter, got 20 gal tank out of shed to seperate males and females got too many fry, so hang in there you'll have too many in no time. got a bright yellow male guppy and happy to see some of new fry are bright yellow
