my guppy is exrtemely pregnant.... well all 3 are - but 2 majorly!!

when do i know when to put them in the breeding net??? they are not pregnant by my male, as i bought them pregnant........

any advice?

pics would be good. If not i can usually tell when the belly squares off towards the anus and of coarse when the anus has opened slightly. I think there is a pinned topic with pics somewhere on this forum, i will have a look.

edit. God i'm stupid, i think it was 5teadys link - but the link doesn't seem to be working anymore.

ive been trying to get pics but its pretty imposible as they swim so quick (blur)

will try again though :)

drop a few sinking pellets or a algae tab, or even a slice of cucumber or peas at the front of the tank, they will investigate so be ready with your camera. Turning the lights out and using a torch can produce excellent pics.

will do tonight - out to uni now!!!

question though - can fish eat sweetcorn???

this is the best i could do :(

the male (they are not his sadly!) next ones will be lol

the top ones will be a little longer i think m8. :good:

thanks :)

i know they are crappy pics but you recon a week or so??

compared to the male they are literally twice the size (round) - i know you cant tell form the photites but....

I think between one and two weeks on all of them, the photos are a bit blurry but they are absolutely huge when they are going to bust, they don't call them 'millions fish' for nothing.

tough to tell from the pics, i would say 10 days or so. Keep a close eye on them, if you get some better pics then please post them.

thanks guys!

i already have homes for them

the next lot i have shall be oranges - hoepuflly like their mum - orange tails etc,....

do guppys sell well??? not bothered if they dont as i can leave them in the main tank to let nature happen......

my breeding net arrived this morning as well :)

privately selling guppies will be difficult as they are so readily available but most lfs' will take them off you and offer trade or sometimes even a little cash. They usually won't take them until they are at least 3/4 inch.

I hate to have to tell you this Millie, the next drop or even 4 or 5 drops may well be from fish that are not in your tank and never were. A guppy can store enough sperm packets to keep producing fry for 6 months with no males in sight. If the females were once mixed in with males, they are likely carrying lots of sperm packets. There is no telling which will be used for the next pregnancy.
