maybe 7 ??? they get 2"-3" I don't know why deminsions matter if he has a ten gallon tank

I don't think there's a definate number. I just switched from a 3-gallon, all guppy tank to a 10-gallon tank. I started with 13 adults and counted 54 fry's all living quite happily in the 3 gallon. Now they are in the 10-gallon tank, and I know I can have more adults.

I don't know much about guppies mating habits, but the females don't get pregnant as often in the 10 gallon tank. Maybe in the smaller 3-gallon tank, the females had less room to escape the forever chasing males.

I always do my how manys by, Lenth, x with, get ya suface area, devid by 12inch.

should get ya inchs of fish that way.

then find out how big the fish get in guppies case, the males are about 1 and half inch, and the female are about 2 inch.

thats the way I been doing for the hole time I been keeping fish, and I never had a prob.

I dunno. I have 8 Guppies, 3 Corys, and 3 Otos in a 7.5 gallon and they seem to get along just fine.

But then again the tank does have some serious filtration for it's size, and has lots and lots of plants for the females to escape the males if they need to. Proabably a few things to consider.

you know what they say, how ever many inches a fish is thats how many gallons it needs. ex: 1 in. fish = 1 gallon


thats not right for everything but i think it will work for gupies.

Omg ....... What will you do wityh the fry I hope you have MAJOR filteration .....Guppies don't produce much waste ... 1 inch per 1 gallon should work but 13 and 54 fry + more is something that you do when you havn't researched the matter OBVIOUSLY ! I see males actually tend to get bigger If you would like some fry maybe 2 males 5 females would work out great


And your fry were prbly being eaten every birth with those many fish ina 3 gallon

I agree with above. Please don't get anymore fish for your 10g. You had way way way way way too many fish in that 3 gallon, and you are looking at around 30 inches or so of fish already even before your fry grow up. In no way should you put anymore fish in that tank. Most I had was 6 in a 5 gallon and I felt horrible for doing that. I had a 2 gallon with a betta in it and couldn't imagine 13 adults and 50 some odd fry in a 3 gallon. That is just insane.

so could i put 10 guppies in the 10g? im not worried about the fry cuz they will be fed to angels and also sold for store credit ( really need this been spending lost of my work money). How long does it take b4 they start having fry.Could any1 give me sum useful links on guppies also i had trouble finding them. thanx for ur help

Well if you're tank is cycled nutreuel ph yadayadayada 8 is the MOST I would have in there you could fit more but in this case the less the less filtraiton you need experianced fish keepers or atleast ppl who generally know what they're talking about like the ppl who agreed with e would tell you the same ...... The guy with the 10 gal. 54 fry 13 adults is just cruel ...... It oul;d be hard for me to let 13 in a 10 gal..... If you want best fry results get another simple 10 gal to keep them other wise I doubt you will get but 1 or so out of every batch that makes it to size to sell generally speaking ....it isn't as easy as ppl say it is to keep them alive ... you will only get $1 or so for each baby ...

More than likely you will get a preggo female already if they aren't seperated ..but most of the time they are seperated ... expect around 7 weeks for fry after day of convievement ... I have heard from every 3 weeks to 3 months .... broods get larger as female gets older and has more :::::::EDIT::::::::::

I just wanted to say my tanks are WAY over stocked, but I run 2 filters, and a airtration system, and my fish seem very happy.

But 13 adults and 54 fry is way to much for a 10G, even if ya have got great filtration.

alright i will most likely put 8 in there i just want the fry so my angels can have live food. im too lazy to hatch brine shrimp at the moment
