i bought 5 guppies last saturday, over the course of this week 3 have died. So i just thought it was a batch batch and notified the place where i got them from.

Now i have noticed some of my guppies that I have had in the tank for 5+ months are starting to lose their colour, getting really thin, and now i have noticed that on two of my females that the inside of their gills are starting to get red.

what is this? what do i need to do to get it sorted?

thank you

The females might have some kind of hemorrhage. Not sure if that is treatable, my guppies that have gotten red spots before haven't survived.  The losing color and getting thin means they are sick. Do they have white spots? or maybe their tails are losing pieces? If they have white spots then its probably itch. And the other one can be tail/fin rot. Both can be treated. Just go to pet store and ask for the treatment it is pretty cheap. You can also have the water tested. I don't know if in the pet stores close to you they do that.

You may be battling gill flukes.  There are a bunch of treatment options that really depend on the stocking of your tank.

dreasmer03 - no to white spot tho i have treated the tank just incase, and no to losing pieces of their tails, which again i have treated just in case.

Neon - surely gill flakes would spread no? its only effecting gippies, and mainly the females

New fish are more stressed and more prone to catching diseases... could be that they are just the first to come down with it.  Sorry, I don't exactly know what "it" is.  :(
