I have 3 male guppies in a 12 gallon tank, my parametres are all fine and my other fish don't have a problem. I feed them regular flake food but the guppies only eat it reluctantly, I'm going to go and get some algae flake but can't get to a decent pet shop until Saturday (Silly me forgot to buy any flake with the guppies, kicking myself now), I was wondering if anyone knows of a good alternative until I can get to a shop, would lettuce work? Cheers in advance

There is no reason why guppies should not accept flake, usually they are the unfussiest of feeders. There is a possibility that they have no appetite because they have internal parasites, this is very common in livebearers and fortunately easily curable if caught early. Are the fish skinny or losing weight? Also, do they poo normally or does it come out very thin, clear, mucusy? These are both signs of internal parasites. A photo would help too.

I agree with Laura - guppies will usually eat just about anything! If they are not taking the flake food something must be up with them.

Are these guppies new to your tank? Perhaps they have not yet settled in properly and are a little stressed.

Anyway, for future reference - you can feed guppies on any frozen foods, live foods (such as baby brine shrimp), dried foods, flakes, pellets, granules, wafers, crushed peas etc - just about anything!

Okay so my worry is over because they've started to eat almost anything in the tank! I fed my tank the usual amount this morning and no one else got a look in, it's not often I have to feed them twice! Thanks for the advice guys I'll still keep an eye on them just in case and probably try them on some crushed peas, I've read in numerous places that ruffage is important for guppies. Again thanks a boat load Laura and Athena :)

BTW they were new additions to the tank, these were the trial run, they have a really healthy and beautiful batch at Maidenhead Beverly so I think I'll add some more.
