I have a 30L biorb with heater. I am going to keep only guppies in it. I currently have 3 male guppies. and am intending to add 3 more after it cycles to build up the tank.

Biorb say you can keep 12 small tropical fish in the tank.

I wanted to know how many guppies you would advise in a tank this size. ( i know sometimes manufacturers can over estimate te capacity). is 12 ok?

Also what ratio of males to females would you suggest?

thanks for your advice.

Forget what the manufacturer tells you - biorbs are poorly shaped for gaseous exchange & have weak filtration so the 30 litre biorb - which only holds about 25 litres of water - will be fully stocked with 5 or 6 male guppies.

Male to female ratio should be at least 1:2, 1:3 is recommended by most people. Nevertheless, one thing you have to keep in mind when keeping guppies is that if you have both female and male in the tank, you are very likely to end with lots of them in a few months.
