Guppies in coldwater tanks???

My LFS sells guppies that have "gradually had their water temperature lowered so that they can be kept in a coldwater tank". Do any other places do this? My other 3 LFS's don't. :fish: I don't have a coldwater tank, but I am just interested to know. :p
 
Just because fish can live in certain conditions doesn't mean they should have to IMHO. It's like bettas living in unheated conditions, and goldfish being forced to live in tropical tanks.

Guppies kept in cool water are at serious risk of fungal infections etc. It might be OK in the summer but in the winter they're going to get sick.

I haven't seen "cool water guppies" thankfully - and I'd complain to the RSPCA if I did.
 
I completely agree with you, I didn't think it was a good idea for them to be doing this. I think they have done it with other species too, not sure tho. I don't like using them much, they are part of a garden centre pet section, and don't have much choice on tropicals
