how can i make guppies fry trap.i have to many pregnant guppies.please sombody if knows .thanks tony.

hi, is anybody knows ,guppies fry trap home made.

if your tank is well planted you shouldn't need a trap for them. i use a breeding box used for rams to hold all the fry for a few weeks. have are all the female guppies squared off? an old 3 litre ice cream tub would be ok for a make shift trap. gotta put a few holes in it. not to big though or that will defeat the object of making it.

Fry traps are a very, very bad idea. They're too small for the mother guppy, causing her too be stressed and either retain her fry or miscarry, and far too small for the fry to grow properly. No professional or serious guppy breeders use them.

Add lots and lots of fine leaved plants, like Java moss, elodea or cabomba to the tank. This will give the fry plenty of places to hide, and also provide food for the youngsters in the form of microscopic organisms and particles of algae.

yeah that better advice. don't put the mother in any trap at all. been there lost her. but putting the fry in a trap is ok for a few weeks if you've got on plants at the moment.

I live in Asia(where it is hot as @#!*) and have a container type thing on my balcony with plants and it once had half a dozen Guppies............ it now has a Gazzilion Guppies! Just let them be, you will have more than you can shake a wet weed at before you know it

Personally I'd use another tank, put the mother in there and remove her once she's dropped.

The last time I bred guppies I used a heavily planted tank and it worked well. Then I removed the adults to another tank. Not sure how many she may have eaten but I still had over a dozen fry if I remember correctly. If you wanted to use a trap probably would be easier to buy one. I don't think they cost more then $10. Usually a plastic box in the shape of a triangle or a box with nylon netting.

Yeah, I support that idea as well. I have 2 pregnant guppies which have begun having fry. They are kept in a community tank with 4 danios, 3 cories, 3 oto catfish, and a male guppy. The first time took me by surprise but managed to save 5 but it was a lot of trouble to catch them in a setup aquarium. Soon afte,r I got some java moss, and added another decoration with lots of leaves. The 2nd female has had her babies on Monday but there are only 3 that I can find.

When they are left on their own, it's frustrating to see them being chased all the time having to hide, and I don't even know if they are getting enough food either. Also, have having that trap, it played havoc with the ammonium and it's a pain to clean...you still need another tank/container to put them in. So, what I have opted to do was to get a small tank, it's cycling right now and I'll be putting the 1st female who is almost ready to deliver her 2nd batch of fry. Once she's done, then I'll take her out.

Originally did put the females in the fry tank, she ended up being so stressed that she didn't have her babies at all. If they're in their own tank it will be better...I know I don't have to got through all this trouble but I just want to see the real number of fry. Mind you, these are inbred...Also, the first 5 fry have since been incorporated with the big fish. They hide so well, that I can't even spot them and they are left alone most of the time but I still worry. Once the small tank is ready, I'll put them in. Sorry for the long post but this is all within the past month!
