After thought about what i was gonna do i got rid of some fry and bought 2 balloon mollies. i have 5 fry left which r small and i kept the 3 juveniles and 1 fry from each batch.can someone plz tell me something about balloon mollies? i bought one male and female and the female is orange with black spots...almost like a mickey mouse Platy and the male is white.the female has a black gravid spot but its not huge but its black! she is squared but i dont know if she will give birth. its hard to tell because she is a balloon molly...also i saw she was in the tank with guppies to at the lfs and they could interbreed so idk if they r gonna be balloon molly fry or golly fry(Guppy & molly)..

Balloon mollies are basically deformed breed, their spine grows like that causeing organ issues and don't live for too long due to this. They are a hybrid variation of Poecilia latipinna, the Sailfin Molly. Btw is it true they can be in a saltwater tank with clownfish etc??

Pet shop mollies can be acclimated rather easily to full salt water conditions. Salt water people always used to use them to cycle their tanks. I have no idea if they still do that or have found another method like we have on the fresh side of things.

wow i didnt know that. well i knew they were a hybrid but i didnt know it wasnt normal to have a bent spine like that for them..but her belly is bigger than the males by a couple centimeters so i know she is pregnant but i just have to wait and see... if they r deformed why did someone breed them to make them popular??

Congrats on your new fish :good:

Balloon mollies are very difficult to tell when they're due, because of their shape.

Who knows why they're popular...you can answer that yourself because you bought them

By the way - you 5 gal in going on overload now with mollies has well...
