from the beginning then..

when i went to check on the fish before feeding last night i found my arowana looking sorry for himself sitting on the bottom in the back corner, after a few encouraging nudges he got up and starter to swim again, this was mainly so I could see his other side, to my horror he had quite a nasty patch where a few scales had been knocked out.

Still unsure of who had done this the oscar soon stepped up and started flaring and mouthing at the the arowana and well everyone else aswell .

I had to stand there fending the oscar off with feeding tongs until he got into a sulk and backed down. soon after I stopped jabbing him with the tongs he rised up again and started over. I had a 30" which was running and i was going to move him here for a week or so to teach him a lesson but he wasn't having any of it last night so gave up on him.

I feed them, set up my camera to take pictures through the night and then went off to bed.

I was awoken earlier this morning by my mum getting me to wake up and sort out the tank as no one had eaten, there were lance fish everywhere and to top it off the water level had dropped in the sump so 1 of the pumps wasn't running. After I got all of that back and running I contibued to get the oscar out and moved him in with Cookie. It wasn't easy but he got tired after a while and got into the bag.

so if he picks on any one in there he'll get his arse kicked! Of course there's Cookie and there's a overly agresive pike cichlid who killed 5 other pikes and put another much larger pike cichlid and delhezi bichir on deaths door.

So what a start to the day!

sounds hectic!

poor arowana too.

its weird reading how you have to fend off your fish with tongs lol.

all my fish would be crushed between the tongs.

cant wait to get my 4ft cycled so i can get sumfin a bit bigger in there.

lol yer sounds visous but you would have to try pretty hard to do damage to big bulky healthy 10" oscar with plastic tongs, I was merely knocking him on the side with them to attempt to show him whos boss.

hehe yea i kno i didnt mean it to sound like a case of fish abuse. Jus sounds funny!

i need some mini tongs for my rams sometimes but i dont think thats quite like an oscar.

Wonder what got into him!! My midas hybrid and oscar have a quarrel sometimes, but I have them trained... I've chased both of them around with tongs and algae scrapers before, so now all I have to do is point at the tank. As soon as they realise they're being watched they stop for a couple of hours at least
They think they're a pair though, so all their aggression is mainly their attempts at spawning and no one is ever hurt beyond a bruise or two.

Sounds like its time for the oscar to find a new home, i wouldnt be suprised if it was the oscar that damaged your rays eye. Its a shame really but sometimes oscars work out in communities of larger fish and sometimes they dont.

My friend had some oscars and thy used to fish ATT so in the end he flushed one down the toilet still alive
So i punched him :D

I'll see how he gets on with cookie and the pike but i really don't want to see him go.... he's my baby!

I think it would almost have to be a new tank if he doesn't get on.

Sounds good. Cookie is another oscar right?
 You must be the only person on this forum who doesn't know who Cookie is

Isn't a bit risky the add an O with a Fahaka Puffer(btw we need updates :p ) and an overly aggresive Pike?

Good luck,

DD

I know you're not too keen on Cookie anymore Paul, but putting an aggressive oscar in his tank? I'm not sure who it is you want to see killed ... it just doesn't sound like a very good idea. Are you planning on leaving him in there, or getting a different tank for him asap?

Hope it works out ok for you though =/ And hope the arowanna will make a good recovery =)

Cookies back in my good books now, as he's coming out of his shell so to speak.

but no I don't plan on any bloodshed. Cookie doesn't(or so far) attacked anything for no reason, the pike even feeds around cookie and they get along fine.

I'ved been in the fish room most fo the morning and there hasn't even been the odd fin nip. they will be closely monitored. I have a tank that the oscar can go in if really need be but i'm hoping he'll get along in there.

I would be devistated if any one of my fish died.

Glad to hear all has been good so far =)
After re-reading my post, I noticed it sounded a bit harsh, so thanks for not making a deal out of that =)
Really hope things will not change and that everyone will stay friendly to eachother =)
