I just culled some danios that had a buldge under the mouth It started out small and grew big. Started out white thus thought the fish had scraped himself. As it got big it became black at the end.

Also I noticed 2 Tiger Barbs have a red mouth and it is puffy. Also have a platy with white on it mouth. Previously had tetra with white on their mouths, which died.

I did a dip with fungus medication with no results.

Anybody else have these problems?

My tiger barbs have red noses.. if thats what your talking about.. haha

Im pretty new to this hobby but from my research i believe its normal (the red nose).

mature male tiger barbs have a red nose.

the danio has a dislocated jaw and there isn't much you can do for it. Sometimes you can massage it back in but it doesn't normally work. The fish usually carry on without any major problems.

I doubt that is was a dislocated jaw problem the danio had. For it was something that grew. The last danio I kulled had just a little of the growth.

Barbs nose is red and puffy like something is growing on it.

Also 1 platy has white on it mouth.

can you post a picture of the platy and barb?

Cheers in here, Colin,

FWIW I saw something very similar on a danio; within a couple of days it became a mouth rot, probably flex, and rot progressed very quickly, so that use of antibiotics once I knew it was bacterial was too late...it killed the bug all right and stopped the bug, but most of the jaw was already gone.

with "white mouth" on other fish, I'd consider treating for flex asap.

My black ruby barbs had a dislocated jaw, it got it the first day after i bought it from the store. A week or so later it dissapeared and became a normal little barb! :) If it has fungus or white "stuff" you should get medicine for it asap.

This is the platy

Lower lip is protruding and gills are red. One is staying at the top.

The barbs infected are missing.

Which medicine? I have tried fungus and parasite medicine with no results.

the platy has mouth fungus, which is actually a bacterial infection called Columnaris. You need a broad spectrum anti-bacterial medication to treat it.

To work out the volume of water in the tank
measure Length x Width x Height in cm
divide by 1000
equals volume in litres

When measuring the height, measure from the top of the gravel to the top of the water level. If you have big rocks or driftwood in the tank, remove them before measuring the height.

Before you treat the tank do a 50% water change and complete gravel clean. This will reduce the gunk in the tank and allow the medication to work more effectively. It will also lower the pathogen count in the water and mean there are less nasties around to infect the fish.

Make sure any new water is free of chlorine and has a similar temperature & PH to the tank.

Remove carbon from the filter before treating otherwise it will absorb the medication out of the water.

Dimensions 30L" x 12W x 15H(from top of substrate) = 5.4 volume in liters

I am going to do that to 29 gallon tank. Also planning to put the sick fish in 10 gallon tank. It has substrate with bacteria in it. How cycled it is I am uncertain thus will have to change water frequently.
