after reading the emersed plant growing of this forum and Tom Barrs forum ive decided to give this ago.

i will be planting around 1/3 of the tank with hc. and the rest with other plant/stems. (its a nano tank which is 24x8x8 inches)

now my question
what other stems/plants can be grown emersed?
i know hc can and i know that i can grow h.polysperma.

so as i said is there any other can can be? ive seen a few posts saying that most the plants can grow in a emersed form and normally are.

thanks
chris

[edit] Sorry to answer your question: I'm not quite sure about this but I think pretty much all plants can be grown emergent. Those plants from such places as Tropica are actually grown this way as it is so much easier & cheaper to dodue to the basic availability of atmospheric CO2, which as you know is a pain to get into the water... so the point is, why submerse them when growing them commercially!

That link threw a wobbly at me and gave me this 'useful' error message

Code:
'You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '= '' order by `item` ASC' at line 1'

Written by nerds, for nerds, and of no use to anyone else on the planet.

i think i know the one your on about (link dont work)

if so thats what made me want to plant my nano. (i wanted to plant it before but forgot about the emersed growing.)

what soil/substrate have people been getting on with?
i used tropica's but it say they recommend another layer on top.

can anyone suggest what plants will look good?
i have a 36 watt pc light over a 5 gallon nano.
will have a black background and will have pressureised co2 when filled.

thanks

Strange... link works when I click on it.

Ever since site update a month or so ago, the index to threads changed to include the subject title and has gone a bit 'weird' for me, but it is probably just the way I do things as I 'code in' links as I type & not use the shortcut buttons above... when I do that auto code takes over and add <a href > etc. html tags... arrgh

Does the link only work for me then anyone else?

To answer your question I think people use AquaSoil. However I use that and am STILL waiting for SOME growth a month later (I am NOT blaming the AquaSoil, I think I need better lighting). EcoComplete is a good alternative. You need something nutrient rich, and I bet ordinary garden soil would do just as good if not better than the commercial stuff (depending on where you live).

[edit] I'll Try that link again...

that link works :good: that was the one i was thinking of

mmmmm i might use some aqua soil i got for my nana around 6 months ago.

its actually compost for pond plants so im assuming it will be fine for tanks (have used it before but no fish where added)

i think im going to start this mid december as i hyave 3 weeks off work! just need to order a few things!
