stick some fert in the rock and some sand and then put the plant in

it should be ok

im guessing you have a hole in the rock right?

i dont have a hole... Do i need a hole? I thought thr roots will grow around the rock as its pretty small.

When taking out of the pot, try to remove the rock wool. Then just tie the fern on top of the rock with some cotton. The roots will grow around and in time hold itself firm to the rock. It will depend on how fast it grows, but you can just leave the cotton as it will rot away. If you use black cotton it won't notice that much.
Hope this helps.

Actually, I would stay away from rubber bands. I have had them cause the rhizome to rot starting at the end of the rhizome and continuing to the rubber band. I cut the rotted portion off and moved the rubber band and the same thing happened again. Then I tied it loosely with cotton thread and had no problems. I was told rubber bands were OK but then this happened...I would advise against it.

ok thankyou very much! i will try this. i have cotton thread avaliabe so it will be fine.

Btw, how much light should a Java fern get? a day, and what kind of light do you think will do?

Your lighting should be on for around 10 hours a day. Java fern grows in low to high light, so it doesn't matter, but it grows faster the higher the light is. My girlfriend has it in her tank with only 1 wpg and it's growing well.
