Is there any way to grow algae on rocks but not the glass of an aquarium? For example I want nice green rocks, but not Green algae covered glass

Sounds too easy, only clean the glass and leave the rocks alone, they should accumulate algae eventually.

You could simulate this with mosses too I'd think, if you can't get algae to grow on the rocks in the first place.

You could always change your lighting set-up to directional spotlights, aiming the beams directly onto the rocks. The algae would mainly grow on the rocks, but you would still get some on the glass

The easiest way, as well as the simplest is just to clean the glass, cheapest way too! That's all I ever did when I had Rifts. No matter what you do, some water borne spores will inevitably settle & grow on the glass.
Don't forget that it's the dominant fish hold territory over rocks - so you need to have some algae for the less dominant fish. I only cleaned my front glass, leaving the rest for the fish to graze on :good:
