Is there any short plant/vegetation that will cover, or nearly cover, my entire tank bottom? I think I'll have to wait until I upgrade my lighting before I move on this final piece of the puzzle. I have gravel, with no reall good plant substrate, but it is rich in nutrients and the tank is very well stocked and fertilized. I have a modest CO2 kit, and my current lighting is about 1 watt per gallon. I also have clown loaches, a gold nugget pleco, and a red finned shark. The red fin nipped away at dwarf baby tears, and I don't think I had enough light for them anyway. Any suggestions as to cover? I reeally want it to spread throughout the bottom of the tank...I have a need...a need for green.

try micro sword or java moss if u want that sorta look

With that kind of lighting and stock, you might be able to plant a bunch of dwarf swords or use mosses tied to some rocks to cover the bottom. With the loaches and such, even with higher lighting you may run into the same kind of problem as with the dwarf baby tears.

^^^^^^^

Thanks for the feedback guys. I have found the plant I want for cover, but I think I'll have to wait to upgrade my lighting. Amano is using this plant often...Glossostigma elatinoides...the Japanses influence has made it increasingly popular, from what I have seen and read. The problem is that it gets a bit too tall, again from what I have read. The less the lighting, the taller it grows, apparently. If you have good lighting and bury it deep, it looks freakin' awesome. Anyone know more about this plant?

kinda like i said in the post right before ?? :shout:

I really wouldn't go with glosso unless you get much better lighting. A much easier and lovely plant are the dwarf hairgrasses, eleocharis arcuata and parvulus. Kept trimmed these grow to form a nice 'lawn', are fairly fast growing and need less light than glosso or the like.
