today i was talking to a guy who works in a lfs that i frequent (he's a very knowledgeable guy and a nice bloke) anyway i've been speaking to him on and off obviously about fish. he knows i am interested in amazonian fish. today he let slip that he's been to the amazon and described expeditions into the jungle. how he sat in a canoe and saw underneath them in a root tangle a huge school of huge green discus, and how one by one they shot out and away further down stream. how at night in a canoe they rowed into reeds at the waters edge and by the aid of a light they picked up sleeping discus with their hands. all this on the river negro in brazil. how the water was coloured black, and other places they visited where the water was "white" and anothers water was "brown" just as i have read in books. how they watched freshwater dolphins playing and hunting fish. about the huge schools of cardinals, etc, etc, etc.
i asked him how he got there and he said the shop paid for a group of them to go! lucky git! but i still like him.

Nice! Down here there is a few big freshwater ponds stocked with lots of guppys, I guess they feed off lil' tad poles. There are also loads of Green Iguana, people catch them, tame them and keep them as pets.
