Ok, i have been keeping fish for years, but i have never seen anything like this before.

My substrate, plants and rocks (i hate ornaments) have all got a thick, slimy algae on them. It peels off the plants in sheets, i have grab chunks of it off the gravel, i tear slices of it off the rocks, but the next morning - worse than before.
My flying fox loves it, he is BLOATED with the damn stuff.
I have reduced feeding (used to just be flakes & daphnia)
Lowered lighting intensity
Shortened the time the lights are on for
used "de-agaeing" tea bag things, which just attracted the damn stuff, gave it somewhere else to grow,

I have a Northern Trout Gudgeon (Morgunda genus) a Kribensis and a flying fox. That is it. I don't over feed them. The tank is not in an overly - bright room.

Please can someone mention a lotion, potion or small but very active fish that can get rid of this stuff - its now 2 inches thick every morning, and has the consistency of cold custard.

I will CRUCIFY the first person to mention a plec - i hate them.

Thanks, Kribster.

Don’t waste your time buying a catfish expecting them to eat it because they don't touch it. The stuff is called Cyanobacter and is commonly known as blue green algae. Try doing daily partial water changes and gravel cleans. Increase aeration and water movement and maybe add some Ramshorn snails. You can also try a complete blackout whereby you turn off the lights and cover the tank for several days. It helps to knock the stuff about. It can also be brought about by old lights or the wrong colour spectrum. Lights that produce a lot of red or yellow light tend to encourage it a bit.

THANKYOU!!!

Minxy - not sooo bad, bristlenoses are a little less "common" than the common plec / gibisept etc, but still.....

lol
