I am noticing small out breaks of green algea on the glass of my tank.

my water states are

amonia 0
nitrate 0
nitrite 0
ph 7.5

i am finding the algea really tough to scrub of with the algea magnet

what is green algea caused by

thanks

Green algae is usually caused by excess light. You might want to try cutting down the amount of time the tank lights are on. Direct sunlight on the tank can also cause green alage. :)

thanks

the tank doesnt recieve direct sunlight so ill put it down to the lights being on from 7 till 7 then low moonlights till 9

i will try turning them off at 5:30 (when i get in from work) for an hour then back on for a bit)

Algae is usually caused by prolonged exposure to sunlight (To the tank), and/or overfeeding. Your options are to either find a few fish to eat the algae, or manually scrape it off the glass. Unfortunately, I am experiancing a very similar problem, except in my tank, the algae is growing in the water  I've been doing water changes every other day and the lights are on for less than 10 hours a day and that doesn't help much -_-

Good luck ridding yourself of algae (at least most of it anyway, a small amount of algae in the tank looks good) :)

Algae will not hurt your fish, people don't like algae because it prevents them from seeing their fish :)

Just to answer your other questions...

Snails will sometimes eat algae. I've occasionally seen my snails munching on it. And yes, Bristlenose Plecos will eat it. Mine love it! :)

what are you nitrate and phosphate levels like?

All tanks will have an amount of algae in it - trying to have a tank without algea is almost impossible.

Algae is not good for plants - it may out compeat the plants for the nutrients they need and will grow on leaves, stealing their light.

If its not bad just scrape it off and move on (a razor blade scraper is ideal for the green spot algae)
