My female Ellioti has decided she wants to spawn with one of the texas! there is chaos breaking out in the tank, going to have to put her somewhere, but where

nooo let them do it,don't separate them, you may make something really cool.

Texas + Ellioti pearling would be awesome :)

More worried about what a 6"+ male Texas guarding eggs would do to the rest of my fish. :hyper: I know the 2 plecs would eat the eggs I just dont want them injured.

You need to split the little horny fish up? Did they spawn? Could you just take the eggs out and In a day or so they will get over it and move on?

Do you still have the ellioti babies in a seperate tank? If so, move her in there, she will likely (unfortunately) pair up with one of her kids, but better than with the texas. If not, how about putting her in the rio 300 with the angels?

Cant put her straight in the 300 as got 2 rams left in there and she is so bolshy I think she would attack the angels, (too slow?), and in the tank with the ellioti babies are another 2 rams and the little keyholes, she would chew them up. So I can possibly move the key holes (yeah catch those little beggers again  ) and rams in with the baby convicts, I think they are too big to be eaten. My other option is throw her in with Atlas the turt for the time being, she has lived with him temporarily before, this is if I can catch the "insert words of choice" she has so far managed to jump out of the net 5 times already, she REALLY wants to stay in the big tank

Gah i'm jealous that you have got a awesome potential pairign there.

I would love to have a Ellioti x Carpinte brood, then try and mix them with with blood parrots to get some crazy looking red Texas/Flowerhorns... the pearling would be something else.

Sorry Glen, I just couldnt risk damaging my other fish (have you seen the teeth on a Texas!!! :hyper: ) and the Ellioti has a couple of big lovebites on her nose now as it is, shame your not closer my Texas have been up for sale for months and still have a load of Ellioti, you could of had a bash yourself.

I finally managed to catch her this afternoon, double net job!! Jethro (the plec) was being no help whatsoever as she kept hiding under him and all the shoving in the world was not going to shift him, I think he remembers I took the sev eggs and he was determined he was having this batch
Panic over for another day, see what tomorrow brings, dont you just love fish lol

Ha, yeh Texas don't mix well with anything really, i kinda put them in the same category as Midas, Red Devils, Viejas and Jags etc.

I have pretty much given up mixing Centrals now, and only ever mix south's with souths because they don't interbreed (unless in the same genus) and are less aggressive.

Of course you do get exceptions, and Texas are beautiful, espech the the Carpintis (green Texas) variety's like Escondido.

Wasn't the Texas you have the ones you were sold as Blue Acaras a few months back?

Its the Carpintis that I have and yes they were the ones advertised as blue acara, poor hubby drove out to the middle of nowhere to get them, still got 6 out of the 18 he brought back!!! I must admit they do seem to be ok in my tank, not really a bother untill today, but I think I have all males so that cuts out aggression a little. Trouble is they grow a lot bigger than the acara I origionally planned. Not fussed now about getting rid of them as they are really beautifull fish and I will be moving some of the other fish out of that tank soon.
