I just brought home new livebearers! :D I may be having a blonde moment but this beautiful blue platy has a pretty dark gravid spot... but hes a male!! Also, one of my female swordies is pregnant, but her gravid spot is pretty high... higher than any other I've seen.... right in the middle of her belly... Is this weird?

It's possible they could just be markings..I'm guessing that's what is going on with the male. As for the female...high as in closer to the head, or closer to the dorsal fin?

I agree it is probably just natural markings; i used to have a diamond german blue male guppy who had a dark spot which looked like a gravid spot and was in the same place as one would be too but he was positivly male.

The female's gravid spot is higher up than usual... like by her dorsal fin. I've always seen gravid spots lower by their bottom... it just looks too high.

I'll try to get a picture... Im not too sure how to post it... I wish I could draw a picture :)

anastasia- Is that your horse??

To post it, you can to to Member's Aquarium Pictures and upload it there. Or, you could sign up at www.photobucket.com and upload it there. Then copy the URL under the image, and click the IMG tag, then paste the URL in. Should show up as a picture. :)

Nope, the horse isn't mine. We DO have Gypsy Vanner that looks a lot like him though!

After observing her more, I came to the conclusion that its just her marking... which is so weird because it is so dark, Ive never saw one like that... or I may be surprized with some fry in a few weeks!
