Hello all... I am new to the aquarium thing and have a few questions. I have a 55 gallon tank that is only 3 months old. I have about 8 ghost shrimp and noticed tonight that one of them is gravid. She is carrying her eggs up under her tail. I was wondering is there anything I can do to ensure the little one's survival? Or is this something that momma will take care of?

Here are the other fish in the tank. clown loach (1), sunburst platy (2), black neon (2) , dwarf gourami (1), zebra danio (2), bleeding heart tetra (3), and only God knows how many rams horn snails.

I have natural plants, rocks and lots of cover.

Any advice is appreciated.

ghost shrimp hatch as larvae, unless you move her to another tank and then move her back shortly after they hatch, there is probably little hope. There are some good articles on here under the inverts topic.

I tried having babies once, however I moved the mother to a different tank. Unfortunatly I have not had any luck with keeping the young alive. So maybe keep the temp. constant and warm.

Best of Luck!

Hi, i have also got 2x egg carrying glass shrimps that i am hoping to raise the babies from. This thread in the inverts section has a bit of advice that i got when i asked the same question recently

I think that i will need a spare tank for them though as the momma shrimps went absolutely off their heads when i separated them into a floating hatchery, so i ended up releasing them as i feared they would hurt themselves in their frantic attempts to escape. They are now back in my community tank and i have added more plants for cover and got some liquifry food for when they drop their eggs, also i have attached a Juwel poly pad over the filter intake to stop the little ones getting sucked in.

Thanks for the help. I have not been able to find her but there are a ton of hiding places. I am sure she has found one and holed up. I will have to get my breeder net from my daughter, she has it full of little guppies, and see if I can locate momma shrimp to get her moved.

the small larvae will slip through the breeding net. and dont they feed on micro-organisms as larvae???
