Gravel Vac

can anyone recomend a gravel vac that is good for using with sand i don't have one at the moment so i should really get one, i've got a 30ltr container that can sit next to the tank so it doesn't need to have a huge long pipe.
i'm in the uk

Hiya,

I bought one from Pets at Home - BioActive Prime Gravel Cleaner (that's all I'd buy there by the way). It was a small vaccuum and works OK but wish I'd got one that has a hand pump so that it's easy to start. Mine does OK when the tank's full but a bit more difficult when half full (presumably to do with getting enough water up and over the tank).

Any gravel vac will work fine with sand, you just need to hold it so that the suction tube is above the sand enough to avoid picking up sand along with the dirt. For me that is about 1/2 inch but it will vary depending on how far the bucket is below the tank. More height difference means a stronger flow.

ok thanks i wasn't sure if there was maybe a one with a different end for sand
